I’m back from a long trip to Supanova Expo 2011 with @emmajeans of
Emm-Art – a convention event of comics, games, tv, movies, ‘rasslin’ and many many shiny trinkets for Nerds and fanboys of almost all kinds.
The long wait.
As usual the line to get into the event was very very long. Fortunately the fun thing about the wait is seeing all the people dressed up – many crazy stuffs.
Comic Comics Comics.
Saturday I found my way to guest star artist section and waited in line for a sketch from the artist of awesome Mr David Finch. It was probably the slowest line in history. Organisation of the line was a bit of a mess and communication by Supernova attendants and artists was failure. Attendants thought that all artists were producing sketches as they was approached but some was just taking orders to work though. Hours of waiting eventually yielded success for myself. I now have a pretty Dr Doom picture in my sketchbook. Mr Finch was very friendly and great talking to the very very nervous fanboy ahead of me that was asking drawing tips. Watched him draw a full few full body drawings with ease and almost no guidelines put down. Just awesome.
Games
Went to check out the video games but there was only a dancing thing and a confusing Kinect. There was also demo games of ‘Dungeon & Dragons’ and ‘Magic the gathering’ … still no other roleplaying games have made an appearance to the show -maybe one day that will happen.
Stars
Saw the ‘I dream of Jeannie’ cast. Barbara Eden was delightful, Larry Hagman was entertaining but seemed to either have trouble hearing or just had troubles with the Australian accent. Bill Daily was freaking hilarious. Saw Mr James Masters who was also entertaining. He looked a lot bigger in real life then I expected from the various TV shows
Loot!
Things a purchased included the complete Ulysses 31 (with emmajeans), Frazetta painting with Fire, Trade paperbacks ‘Nemesis’, ‘The walking Dead’ & ‘5 Ronin’. A sketch by David Finch, a Spider-man T-shirt, a Serenity T-shirt and a book by Doug Holgate.
My favourite part of the con was the panels by artists – I enjoyed listening to the creation of art and the struggle to make pictures. Also my thanks @emmajeans for traveling with me 🙂
Well that’s it for another year – I am so very tired and not wanting to return to the reality of work.
